Best brunch in Krakow: six spots for a slow weekend

Kolanko No 6

The Kazimierz brunch institution, and the one most locals name first. Kolanko has been doing crepes, big breakfast plates and a weekend spread on ul. Józefa for years, in a long room that opens onto a vine-covered courtyard. The garden is the reason to come and the reason it fills by noon on a Sunday, so arrive early or plan to wait with a coffee. Bococa Bistro

For brunch that leans modern bistro rather than cafe, Bococa on Plac Inwalidów in Krowodrza is the pick. This is where to go for a proper eggs benedict, a real hollandaise, and a calm room a short walk north-west of the Old Town, away from the weekend crush. Ambalaz Cafe

The highest rated place on this list, and the one with the view. Ambalaz sits on top of the Cricoteka art centre on the Podgorze riverbank, with a rooftop terrace that looks straight back across the Vistula at Wawel and Kazimierz. Charlotte

The cheapest good brunch in the city, and the earliest croissants. Charlotte is a French bakery-cafe on plac Szczepański, one of the sunniest squares on the Old Town edge, baking its own bread overnight in the basement. Ranny Ptaszek

A small, vegetarian-leaning breakfast room back in Kazimierz, on ul. Augustiańska, with a quiet garden out the back. The name means early bird, and the plates are gentle, seasonal and unhurried, the kind you settle into for two hours with a book and nowhere to be. Good for a slower, quieter brunch than the Józefa crowd.

Veganic

Fully plant-based brunch in the Dolnych Młynów courtyard, the former tobacco factory that is now the city's densest cluster of bars and kitchens.
