Most English guides to this city are written from a desk in another country, recycled from each other, and last checked when the zloty was a different colour. BiteKrakow is the other thing: a guide written by people who stand in these queues. This page is how it works, so you can weigh what you read here against what you find on the ground.
Every place is visited
Every venue in a guide has been visited in person, ordered from, and paid for at the normal price. We do not build lists from menus, press releases, tourist boards or other people's rankings. If we have not been, it does not go in. When we recommend the cheesecake, it is because the plate did not last ten minutes.
Two ratings, kept apart
A place can show two different numbers, and we keep them separate on purpose. Our own score out of ten is editorial: our opinion of the food or the coffee after repeat visits. The star rating and the review quotes on a venue card are Google's, pulled live, labelled as Google, and refreshed on a schedule. We never touch Google's numbers, and we never write, buy or invent a review or a rating of our own. When a guide ranks venues, that order is our judgment, not a popularity score and not a paid slot.
Nobody pays
There are no sponsored rankings, no paid placements, and no arrangement that buys a better position. Nobody can pay to be included, and nobody can pay to be removed, though one bar did ask. A guide that flatters everyone is an advertisement, and Krakow has enough of those. The only thing that moves a place up a list is being better.
Kept current
Addresses, hours and prices are checked when a guide goes live and rechecked whenever we update it. Every guide carries the date it was last checked, so you always know how fresh it is. We also run regular checks against Google for places that have closed permanently, and we remove them rather than send you to a locked door. When a place slides in quality, we edit the entry or drop it.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, an address moved, a place closed, a price jumped, tell us and we fix it. Tips, corrections and arguments go to hello@bitekrakow.com. Corrections get fixed.
