Five years ago, ordering a vegan breakfast in Krakow meant a bread basket with hummus and a polite apology. That has changed. The city now has fully vegan restaurants, dedicated plant-based bakeries and even the non-vegan specialty coffee shops stock oat milk and vegan pastry as standard.
This guide covers six places where vegan breakfast is the main event, not a footnote at the bottom of the menu. Three are entirely plant-based. The other three are vegetarian or mixed, but their vegan options are strong enough to carry a full morning meal without compromise. We tested all six on weekday mornings, ordering only from the vegan side of the menu.
Veganic
The most straightforward pick on this list: everything on the menu is vegan, so there is no scanning, no asking, no footnotes. Veganic sits on Dolnych Młynów, a short walk from the Planty, in a bright space with a garden terrace that fills up fast in summer.
The breakfast menu runs from a tofu scramble toast through a full vegan English (beans, sausage, mushrooms, toast, the works) to oyster mushroom chops and a seitan burger for anyone who treats breakfast as a main meal. Smoothies and fresh juice on the side. Desserts are all vegan too, and the cheesecake in particular has no business being as good as it is without dairy.
Zaczyn
A vegan bakery on the quiet side of Kościuszki, across the river in Dębniki. Zaczyn opens at 7:00 on weekdays, which makes it the earliest vegan breakfast in the city by a comfortable margin. The name means "sourdough starter" in Polish, and the bread is the reason to come.
Long-fermented sourdough loaves, cardamom buns, pastries that crumble properly, toasts with hummus or nut butter or a bean spread that changes with the season. There are also smoked tofu toasts and roasted baby potatoes for a warmer plate. Espresso is good, oat lattes are standard. The space is small, the prices are low, and on a weekday morning you will be sharing the room with Dębniki locals who discovered it before anyone wrote a guide.
Mo-ja Cafe & Bistro
Mo-ja is not a vegan restaurant. It is a busy all-day breakfast spot on Starowiślna where half the tables are eating eggs and the other half are eating tofu, and nobody minds. The vegan side of the menu is long enough to be its own restaurant: a tofu bowl, a plant-based shakshuka, acai bowls, scrambled tofu, and a vegan feast plate that covers all the bases on one tray.
Expect queues on weekend mornings from about 8:30. The room is bright, the portions are big, and the crowd skews young and international. Over 3,000 Google reviews and a 4.5 average suggest this is not a hidden gem, but the vegan menu is often the quieter story that people overlook.
Raw Nest
If your idea of breakfast involves a smoothie bowl that looks like it was styled for a photo shoot, Raw Nest is the place. Fully vegan, raw-focused, tucked into a side street near Kazimierz. The menu is built around superfoods, cold-pressed organic juices, energy balls and things that contain the word "acai" without irony.
Beyond the Instagram surface, the food is genuinely well made. Granola bowls are substantial enough for a real meal. Avocado toasts come on good bread with real toppings, not a thin smear and a sprinkle of seeds. The cold-pressed juices are made on site and priced accordingly. Come hungry, come with your phone camera, leave feeling like you made a good decision about your morning.
Karma Coffee
Karma roasts its own beans on a Synesso machine in a narrow room on Krupnicza, and the coffee would be reason enough. But the breakfast menu is the quieter draw: vegan scrambled eggs, vegan croissants, porridge and granola, all served until 13:00. The whole cafe is vegetarian, with most items having a vegan version.
This is the pick for anyone whose first priority is excellent coffee and whose second is a vegan breakfast that does not feel like a concession. The croissants are flaky, the portions are honest, and you can watch the roasting happen through a glass wall while you eat. If Veganic is the dedicated vegan restaurant, Karma is the specialty coffee shop that happens to do vegan breakfast properly.
Ranny Ptaszek
The name means "Early Bird" and the promise is in the title. Ranny Ptaszek has been doing vegetarian breakfast in Kazimierz since before plant-based was a trend, in a colourful room on Augustiańska that feels like eating in someone's very opinionated living room.
The vegan options are clearly marked: tofu scramble, granola with coconut yoghurt, various toast combinations, and a rotating daily special that is often fully vegan. Portions are large, prices are fair, and the room has the kind of warmth that comes from a kitchen that genuinely cares about feeding people well. Opens at 8:00, which by Krakow breakfast standards is practically dawn.
The bigger picture
Beyond these six, most specialty coffee shops in Krakow now stock plant milk (oat is standard, soy and almond on request) and at least one vegan pastry. If you just need coffee and something to eat, any place in our specialty coffee guide or laptop cafe guide will have you covered.

Common questions
Is Krakow a good city for vegan food?
Surprisingly good, and improving fast. There are now fully vegan restaurants (Veganic, Raw Nest), vegan bakeries (Zaczyn), and almost every modern cafe offers plant milk and at least one vegan option. The student population helps: cheap, plant-based food has a natural audience here.
Where is the earliest vegan breakfast?
Zaczyn on Kościuszki opens at 7:00 Monday to Friday with sourdough bread, toasts and pastries. On weekends it opens at 9:00. Ranny Ptaszek in Kazimierz opens at 8:00 daily.
Are these places fully vegan?
Three are: Veganic (entire menu is vegan), Zaczyn (vegan bakery) and Raw Nest (vegan, raw-focused). Karma Coffee is vegetarian with strong vegan options. Mo-ja and Ranny Ptaszek serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food but have dedicated vegan sections on the menu.
What about oat milk in regular coffee shops?
Oat milk is now standard in Krakow's specialty coffee scene. Every cafe in our guides stocks it, and most do not charge extra. If you just need a flat white with oat milk, almost any specialty coffee shop will do.
