Breakfast in Krakow, For People Who Wake Up Early

Krakow is a late-breakfast town pretending otherwise. Half the places that advertise "breakfast all day" do not unlock their doors until ten, which is lunch with extra steps. This list is for the other appetite: jet lag, early trains, small children, or the simple conviction that a city belongs to whoever is up first.

Every place below opens at nine at the latest, most much earlier, and each entry states the exact weekday and weekend hours, because that is the whole point of the article. Prices run 20 to 40 zloty for a proper plate.

Handelek · from 6:30

The earliest serious breakfast in Krakow, five minutes from the main station on św. Filipa. Handelek rebuilds the traditional krakowskie śniadanie, heritage-recipe sandwiches and sets on bread that means it, from produce carried over from the Stary Kleparz market. At half past six you share the room with bakers coming off shift and lawyers going on; by eight there is a queue. Budget prices, zero tourist tax.

Charlotte · from 7:00

The French answer, on plac Szczepański at the edge of the Old Town. Charlotte bakes its own baguettes and croissants and serves the famous basket: bread, homemade preserves, chocolate spread and honey for around 26 zloty, with the square's art nouveau facades thrown in. It opens at seven on weekdays and the weekend queue is a Krakow ritual in itself; go Tuesday at half past seven and have the room nearly to yourself.

Bruk Cafe · from 9:00, Sundays too

Nine o'clock is not heroic, but consistency is: Bruk in Kleparz serves breakfast until noon seven days a week, including the Sunday morning slot when most of this list sleeps in and the station district runs on vending machines. Specialty coffee, proper matcha, and the Basque cheesecake that regular readers of this site are tired of hearing about, though not of eating. Ósma Rano · from 8:00

The name means eight in the morning, which is both the opening hour and the entire business plan. Opened in 2025 on Podwale by the crew behind Forum Przestrzenie, it runs about ten breakfast sets on bread from the Zaczyn bakery, plus a build-your-own option, with Garage Coffee Roasters in the grinders. Young, confident and right on the Planty ring, so you can walk off breakfast under the trees.

Milkbar Tomasza · from 8:00

The milk bar, modernized without being embalmed. On św. Tomasza in the Old Town, it serves the big scrambled-egg breakfasts, pancakes and pierogi of the bar mleczny tradition at prices that still respect the tradition, from eight every day except Monday, when it rests. Locals and tourists share the tables in unusual harmony, mostly because everyone is too busy eating.

Ranny Ptaszek · from 8:00

The early bird of Kazimierz, on Augustiańska near the quiet plac Wolnica end of the district. All-morning breakfast with the strongest vegetarian and vegan game on this list, shakshuka included, and a small garden that catches the first sun.
