Thai in Krakow has a clear king and a surprisingly deep bench. The king is a canteen: Molám, where the founder trained in Bangkok and in London's best Thai grills, cooks over open fire, and holds the first Michelin Bib Gourmand ever given to a Thai restaurant in Poland. The bench is the part visitors miss, the neighborhood woks out in residential districts where locals quietly hand out 4.8 and 4.9 star ratings for plates under forty zloty.
Two notes for accuracy. Molám's honor is a Bib Gourmand, Michelin's good-value award, not a star. And Big Mango, the name older lists still recommend, closed back in 2022, so skip any guide that sends you there. Six places, from the award room to the takeaway counter.
Molám Thai Canteen & Bar
Founder-chef Tomek Muza trained at London's Smoking Goat and Kiln and staged at Michelin-starred Bo.lan in Bangkok, then came home and opened a canteen on Rajska that cooks over open fire and covers all four regions of Thailand. Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand in 2023 and has kept it there through the 2026 guide, the first Thai in Poland so honored. The room is small and fills fast, so book.
Taj Kraków
On Miodowa in Kazimierz, with a second branch on Szpitalna near the Main Square, Taj runs the most Thai kitchen in the city in the literal sense: the entire team, head chef included, is Thai. Pad kra pao, som tam and tom yum taste like someone's actual repertoire rather than a course catalogue, and the vegan section is strong. The easy walk-in of the top tier.
Luktung
The second venue from Molám's founder, on Rynek Podgórski across the river. The scope widens to Southeast Asian sharing plates, but the kitchen is Thai-led and the small menu changes monthly, with one fixed anchor: the pad thai, which is also the biggest portion on the card. Green curry with shrimp and chicken satay fill out the table. Book on weekends.
Thai Fun
The first of two neighborhood kitchens visitors never find and locals never shut up about. Family-run, out east in Czyżyny, holding 4.8 stars across more than 1,100 Google reviews. The catch is the clock: the kitchen closes at 19:30 and stays shut on Mondays, so treat it as a lunch or early dinner, priced at the happy end of the scale.
Little Thai
A takeaway-first counter in Wola Duchacka that only opens Thursday through Sunday and still holds a 4.9 Google rating across roughly 460 reviews, among the highest of any Thai kitchen in the city. Pad thai, spring rolls with the house dipping sauce, and the curry of the day with cucumber salad. Not a destination room, just some of the best-loved Thai cooking in Krakow through a window.
Samui
Two minutes off the Main Square on Wiślna, Samui bills itself as Krakow's first Thai restaurant and keeps a head chef from Thailand. Chicken satay, tom kha and the mango salad are the safe orders. Honest caveat: some reviewers find the cooking more Thai-inspired than strictly traditional these days, but for a central, daily-open, walk-in Thai dinner it still earns its place.
How to use this list
One Thai dinner in Krakow: book Molám and order off the fire. Walk-in near Kazimierz: Taj on Miodowa. Across the river with the Podgorze evening: Luktung. And if you are staying out in the neighborhoods, Thai Fun and Little Thai are the 4.8-and-up locals' secret, at half the center's prices and two thirds of its opening hours.
Questions people actually ask
Is Molám's award a Michelin star?
No, it is a Bib Gourmand, Michelin's distinction for excellent cooking at good value, held every year since 2023. No Thai restaurant in Poland has a star. Phrasing it right matters, and the food does the rest.
How spicy will the food be?
Milder than Thailand by default, because kitchens adjust to Polish tastes. At Taj and Molám, ask for Thai-level spice and mean it. The som tam is the dish where real heat pays off most.
What happened to Big Mango?
Closed since the start of 2022, though some listing sites still show it as open. Any guide that recommends it has not been updated in years, which tells you something about the guide.
